Hands-on review of the Gigabyte Z370 Aorus Gaming 3 motherboard as well as a quick work around for the hot VRM temps that a lot of reviewers and customers are reporting with some of these Z370 Aorus boards. Initially I thought it was the 4-phase VRM layout but it turns out it’s a lot simpler than that!

Thank you so much for this! it's an easy 10 minute fix. Recently upgraded to a 9900kf and vrm temp was skyrocketing to 132C at which point it was throttling pretty bad. Now it stabilizes to 101C under the same workloads. I just removed the 4 washers inside the case and put them back in on the back side of the mobo. Pretty much saved me a few hundred bucks!
Excellent, remove the spacers and tightening the screws well at least 15 ° C. Thank you
i bought a b450i ryzen board its always hot even at idle its sitting in a box since i bought another board
What a god
How does one check the vrm temps?
does it have a backplate or nah?
I started to get into video editing with Prem Pro and saw 92C (199F) on the left VRM bank after 15mins at 4.9 overclock at 1.25v, 32 gig 3400 and 1080ti.
The top VRM bank above the CPU was pretty good, it was still 60C and when I took this off you could see it was pressing in quite well. (Kind of wish I left this one alone)
The left VRM bank on the other hand was pretty bad and not pressed in at all. I re-tested exporting same video in Prem Pro CC under load for 15mins and my left bank VRM didn't go over 82c so about a 10c drop… not bad imo and I think this Hot fix does help.
The next step is Ghetto mod.. 120 or 140 fan twisty tried to the top of the case but bladesairflow pointing to the VRM's .. done this before in another build and should provide another 10C reduction I'm hoping which will be down to low 70C which should be fine overall for my small Overclock.. pretty happy with 4.9 only needing 1.25Vcore on this board.. maybe CPU lottery.
amd gigabyte ab350 gaming 3 and i getting 53c vsoc mos and vrm mos is 50c its ok in idle?
Can it Over clock cpu.Intel i5 8600k
Can you please show how exactly you removing them and getting them on again? Would be great!
Just a thought guys. If you are using a water cooler on the cpu like most high overclockers do. You are missing out on the airflow over the vrm that the cpu fan would have supplied. Hope that helps since I noticed a big vrm temp jump when I switched to water cooling. Happy overclocking 🙂
quick question for anyone who knows, is the vrm temps along the lines of cpu package temp? i tried googling this but couldn't find out. aida64 reads my temps very hot for cpu package /:
My aorus z370 gaming 3 is not overclocking my i5 8600k over 4.3ghz. I've also same other guides to overclocking and I dont have the same options as them, like cpu base clock is not showing up, I increased the voltage to 1.35v and still didn't overclock past 4.3ghz
Ok then i will buy MSI xD
hi there ive got a throttling temps at 123c with z370 HD3 i know thats a low end mobo but do u think its gonna work with my mobo-the way u just shown ?
do r dho alldo
This or asus tuf z370 plus gaming?
Great video, thanks a lot! There should be more videos like that!
Damn this mobo… The vcore set to static and llc on high can't mantain the voltages and i get jumps from 1.27 to 1.32 or more
Just a quick note, anything below 125*c is considered safe for a VRM. Most manufacturers will target around 100*c as a peak temperature and they should throttle to prevent thermal runaway round 125*c if they are under a significant load. if the VRM reaches 130*c then you will get issues with thermal runaway and it'll kill your board.
Reddit poster gone so thread is "dead". Remove old heat sink pad and replace with the fujipoly stuff?
I just installed this motherboard and my pc feels like its on fire with just gaming
am going to build a new pc
– ((msi z370 gaming plus)) OR ((auros z370 gaming 3)) WHAT YOU THINK??
– gtx 1060 6gb
– i5-8600K
– 16 gb ram
– 960 evo m.2 from samsung
noktua D15s cooler
now i have 2 question , should i put a cooler for m.2?? and if i have to give me a brand name so i can bring it , another question can i add wifi for the motherboard?? and if i can could you give me a name so i can buy it?? BETWEEN am not planning for overclocking at all but its little bit difference in the price between Z and H motherboard thats why , THANKS GUYS
I just did this mod on the Giagabyte Gaming WIfi. I unscrewed the heatsinks and then used a flathead to remove the glued on washers. After a little bit of work they came right off. I thought about putting on new thermal pads but since I didn't touch them, I just reattached the heatsinks. I'l find out in a couple weeks when I build my new rig to see how the temps are.
so why not using screws?
I have the same problem with ASUS ROG STRIX X99 motherboard with i7-5930K. HW Monitor shows temperature randomly jumping from zero to 127C every second on fourth VRM. Even on idle speed and not overclocked. And interesting fact – the same thing on my brother's board. Suspicious jumping with the same temperatures – 0, 88, 127.. Isn't it strange? Or maybe it is just a some kind of sensor's fault? Seems it is not just a Gigabyte's problem with temperatures…. Any ideas?
i actualy have done a simular thing to my ultra gaming boatd there i habw mooved the washers to the other side to get more mounting preshute on the vrm's even if the board flexes a little
That really sucks. This board looked like a decent price / performance / feature ratio. But no way I'm buying a board that I have to macgyver out of the box with popsicle sticks. Gigabyte that's just sad.
I am staying away! I use MSI!
If i don't want to overclock then do i need to worry about hot VRM issue (My PC will be corei5 8400+Z370 Aorus Gaming 3).
